PROJECT 8: TAILINGS DAM REHABILITATION
BEAL was appointed to undertake the project management, design and implementation of the decommissioning and rehabilitation work.
This was for a Coal Mine is located in Tete, Changara District, Tete Province Mozambique. The mine has coal reserves amounting to 1.9 billion tonnes of coking coal, one of the largest coal reserves in Africa and the world. The mine is operating and is currently producing prime hard coking coal and thermal coal. The mine is said to have a state-of-the-art wash plant and surface infrastructure.
The Coal Mine has appointed BEAL (Pty) Ltd to undertake the project management, design and implementation for the decommissioning and rehabilitation work for the Tailings division.
The project included studies, investigations, detailed designs and execution components and a post-closure monitoring program. The project also included seepage collection systems, water-shedding covers, evaporative covers, surface and sub-surface drainage systems, spillway and a return water dam.
